Dusty Thorburn: "Welsh Gems"(Saturday, Session 6, Mountain Dulcimer, Intermediate)

$12.50

From the mist-covered valleys and rolling hills of Wales come soft, wistful airs and playful melodies that are far less known than their Irish and Scottish brethren. This workshop covers a number of traditional Welsh tunes, including both slow ballads and airs and also spirited dance tunes. We will concentrate on phrasing with the slow tunes in an effort to convey the emotional essence of the melodies and smooth fingering with the dances to maintain consistent tempo. Tunes examined may include Myfawny, Mae Hen Wlad fy Nhadau (Land of Our Fathers), Sosban Fach (The Little Pot), Cwm Rhondda (Guide Me, O, Thou Great Redeemer), Merch y Tafarnwr (The Innkeeper’s Daughter), and more. (DAd tuning). A recording of the workshop will be available for at least 6 weeks after the festival.
