(1-Day) with Tull Glazener (Virtual Workshop)
Dulcimer Workshops with Tull Glazener
Join us for a day of exploring the joy of multi-part
arrangements which will demonstrate that when it comes
to ensemble playing, “the whole is greater than the sum
of its parts”. This will be a virtual workshop conducted
via Zoom, so you will be able to participate from the
comfort of your own home. Each arrangement will
include distinct parts suited for a wide range of skill and
experience levels, making this a perfect setting for
mixed-level groups or anyone looking to build confidence
in playing with others.
In addition to learning some new arrangements, we’ll also
focus on techniques to make your ensemble playing
more effective. The sessions will be recorded, and all
registered students will receive links to the videos
afterward for review and practice.
Session 1 (9:00 am – 11:00 am EDT) – “Waltzes and Airs”
We’ll begin the day with lilting waltzes and lyrical airs
from around the world. The arrangements presented will
include some Celtic pieces (“Neil Gow’s Lament”,
“Rosebud of Allenvale”); a classical piece from New
Zealand (“Nikau Waltz”); and a “waltzified” American
fiddle tune (“Soldier’s Joyful Waltz”).
Session 2 (1:00 pm – 3:00 pm EDT) – “Ragtime and Fiddle
Tunes”
In the afternoon we’ll shift gears and step into high
energy with syncopated ragtime rhythms and toe-tapping
fiddle tunes. We’ll work on a Scott Joplin piece
(“Peacherine Rag”), a Charles Johnson tune (“Armadillo
Rag”), and a couple of traditional fiddle tunes (“Roscoe”
and “Indian Corn”).
Cost: $20 for an individual session, or $35 for both.
You can sign up for 1 day or both days!
