Mistletoe Jam

The Garden City Strummers of Augusta, GA want to invite you to join us in January for the annual Mistletoe Jam! After those stressful holidays you deserve to let your hair down and enjoy some laid-back fellowship and jamming. We don’t have classes, just a very relaxed time of playing music together. The event starts at 9:00a.m. on Saturday the 17th of January and goes into the night if the interest is there. On Sunday the 18th we will return at 10:00a.m. for a Hymn Jam before we clean up the Beach House and give the keys back to the park. Best of all – it’s FREE! There is, however, a small park entrance fee per vehicle of $5.00 and we will have a donation jar for coffee and colas. The location is Mistletoe State Park in Appling, GA, a beautiful setting on Lake Thurmond, so if you get tired of playing you can hike or fish! The park has 10 cottages and over 90 campsites. If you prefer off-site lodging, there are several hotels in Thomson, Grovetown and Evans (between 12-20 miles away). If you can’t come for the weekend, just join us on Saturday. We have many folks that come to watch us play, and often local jammers join us with their various instruments. The park gives us a large heated shelter with kitchen for this event, so you will be WARM! Bring food to share, as we nibble all day and have a potluck together on Saturday evening. There is no food service in the park, so you will go hungry if you don’t share! There will be a swap/sell table also. Here is the link to the Mistletoe Park if you want to reserve a cabin or campsite. http://gastateparks.org/Mistletoe. Please let us know if you are planning to come or if you need more information. You can contact Pat Colbert 706.267.7802 or pogosbill@aol.com All kinds of instruments are welcome: mountain dulcimers (of course!) guitars, hammered dulcimers, penny whistles, harmonicas, accordions and spoons too. We are very “inclusive!” We just mostly play traditional tunes and in the Key of D primarily. Tunes are picked by the attendees and we go around the circle. Pick your speed for the first few times through...then, we may SPEED up. This keeps everyone happy and happy is what we are driving at! We will have TWO special guests!!! DONNA DERRICK from Beech Island, SC (composer, song writer and player on HD and MD) AND the new NGFDA Liaison, BING FUTCH will also be with us!!! Bing is a nationally known performer, teacher and workshop leader. GONNA BE GREAT! Don’t miss it!!!
