How to access the NGFDA Yahoo! Group - Ed Humphries Moderator
| Here is a basic guide: Using a browser (normally Internet Explorer) on your computer, go to the web site: http://www.yahoo.com You should see the Yahoo! Main page (with a large search bar and the top and various information/ selection boxes below). On the LEFT side of the screen there will be a vertical box with various Yahoo! services listed (begins with "Answers" and the top and goes down to "Yellow Pages"). Single click on the word "Groups". If you are not already signed in, you will see the words "Sign In" near the center of the screen just below the search bar. Single-click on "Sign In". Enter your "Yahoo! ID:" in the box provided and then enter your "Password:" (as you entered it when joining Yahoo! after you got your confirmation email) into the box provided. Then single-click on the box just down from there that says "Sign In". Just below the search bar, on the left, you should see the words "Yahoo! Groups" followed by "Welcome" (in smaller type font) and your Yahoo! Id. On the left side of the screen for this page your should see a list of Yahoo! Groups that you are subscribed to as a member (top of box says "My Groups" and if we are your only group you will see "NGFDA" as a Groups selection). Single-click on the group name "NGFDA". A short-cut to get here is to use the URL: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/NGFDA/ If you do this, then the next thing you have to do is single-click the "Sign In" found near the top left of the page. After you successfully sign in you will be taken back to our group and will see messages displayed (bottom center-right hand side where it initially displayed a "Message Activity" box when you came to the page without being logged in). Once you are logged in, the top of the page should show the words: "Welcome" followed by your Yahoo! Id (just below this is the selection for "Sign Out" and "My Account"). On the left side of the screen should be a shaded selection box. The word "Home" will be highlighted. Look down the list and find the words "Files". Single- click the word "Files". Now, to the right of the shaded selection box) you should see the available "Files" folders. the very first (top) selection should say "Current Newsletter" (the line below it reads "Adobe Acrobat file of Foothills Footnotes". Single-click the words "Current Newsletter". You should see a list of currently available newsletters (at this time the top entry is "A09.April 2005" but that could vary in the future). Scroll down the screen to the end of the listing. The very last file shown is always the current issue of the Foothills Footnotes. At the time of this writing the filename is followed just below with a brief description such as "July 2008 Newsletter". Single-click the filename of the newsletter you want to read. Depending on how your browser is currently configured, either the newsletter will open with Adobe Reader for you to read or you will see a dialog box prompting you to "Open" "Save" or "Cancel". Once the newsletter is displayed you can use the available Adobe Reader features to view, save, or print the newsletter as you wish. Simply close the document (upper right X box) when you are finished with it. If you "Save" a copy to your computer you, of course, do not have to come back to the group site to read some more, etc. Note: if you do NOT have Adobe Reader already installed on your computer you will have to get a copy of the reader from www.adobe.com. It is free, just download it, run the installation program and read the instructions. When you are finished you can single-click the "Sign Out" at the top of the page (recommended) or simply close your browser. Have fun! Cheers, Ed Humphries Moderator NGFDA Yahoo! Group |
